Students auditioned in April and early May through their scales assessment recordings which took place in the band room. Mr. Ostrow listened to every wind player in the program and assessed each performance based off a scales rubric. The students also completed a "band intent" google form just prior to these auditions.
After reviewing what each student wanted to do in the program (jazz band, percussion ensemble, play a new instrument, double on two instruments), Mr. Ostrow sat down with each student, gave them a copy of their audition results, and discussed band placement for next year. This placement also indicates the chair in a section based off of the student auditions.
Below is the recommended class lists that were submitted to the front office scheduler for the 7th and 8th grade ensembles. Students are identified by their school ID numbers. Please note, this does not guarantee placement in these ensembles as other factors such as TAG classes, low test scores, and peer mediation requests (8th graders) often take precedent.

Please note, we had a large number of 5th graders that want beginning band. If more than 80 of these students register for Ainger, we will not be offering percussion ensemble next year and will move the percussionists into the class periods (IB/AB) with the wind bands.
