Beginning Band Students are aiming to begin with instruments on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017

Materials Needed for Band Members

All beginning band students that need to rent an instrument or use a school-owned instrument need to attend the "instrument test drive" on Monday, August 21st from 6-7:30pm. We do have a limited number of school instruments on hand. This will be handled on a case-by-case manner between Mr. Ostrow and band parents. If you need help acquiring an instrument and/or accessories, please e-mail Mr. Ostrow at tim.ostrow@yourcharlotteschools.net. You can also call the band phone at 941-697-5800 Extension 255.

ITEM #1, Your child will need a working instrument and accessories.

To acquire an instrument, please use this list of recommended instruments and accessories and contact these local music stores or another vendor. Please do not purchase or rent a brand that is not listed. These instruments have proven to play well and can blend well with the other brands.
just added: North Port Music. Located at 14525 Tamiami Trail, Suite 4 in North Port located in North Port Square
If you acquire an instrument from any store other than Cadence, please have your child bring it to the band room immediately.
It will be tagged and locked up until Mr. Ostrow can teacher your child how to take care of it and play it properly.

Instruments and accessories rented or purchased from Cadence will be delivered to the band room on Tuesdays.

ITEM #2, Your child will need a method book to learn how to play a specific instrument with a class.

A method book for their chosen instrument. This is a flat $10 fee and is purchased through the band boosters. Your child will receive a folder with an instrument specific method book and a written assignments book. These books are used 6th through 8th grade and only need to be purchased once. Here is an example of a woodwind book, a brass book, and a percussion book.

Please make checks out to L.A. Ainger Band Boosters and have your child turn it into the "Payments" box in the band room. Your child will receive a receipt to return to you.

Check the INSTRUMENT that you NEED

The school has a limited number of school owned instruments on hand to lend to students for the duration of the school year. This will be handled on a case by case manner with Mr. Ostrow and the parents. The school does not have alto saxes or percussion (xylophones) for students. If your child selected those instruments, but you cannot afford those items, please e-mail Mr. Ostrow ASAP and he will work to get your child on another instrument.

Check ALL ACCESSORIES that you NEED

Check if you NEED these other items

The band method book and written assignments book can be purchased for a total of $10 through the band program. Checks can be made out to LA Ainger Band Boosters and submitted in the payments box in the band room. Only check yes if you cannot do this right now.
This is usually about $12-15 from most music stores. A cheaper wire frame model is recommended. If you cannot afford that, please check yes below.
