Saxophone
The saxophone has a tapered brass body and an upturned bell. The sound of the saxophone can range from very high to quite low; from shrill and whining, to bold and brassy. As you get older, you can switch from the small alto “sax,” to the medium tenor or the larger baritone; the bigger the saxophone, the deeper its voice.
**Students interested in saxophone should first play clarinet. This is to practice initial technique and establish an embouchure (how the mouth connects to the mouthpiece) before accommodating a larger instrument, the saxophone. This also serves to reduce the number of students on one instrument.
