Bassoon

The bassoon is a rare beauty in the music world. It plays the lowest sounds in the woodwind family. The range of notes it can play is larger than most instruments.   It is a bass instrument and a double reed instrument.

***Due to the complexity of this instrument, students interested in the bassoon should take private lessons or always attend morning band for extra help. Like oboe players, students should learn how to make reeds after one year of playing this instrument. Reed making classes are offered once a year in Fort Myers, or students can also attend weeklong summer workshops at Florida Universities to learn the craft. This instrument is much easier to play once a student learns to make reeds. It also saves a lot of money.
